Conference "What is the place of jazz and improvised music within contemporary music in the Maghreb?”

Within the framework of the celebration of the International Jazz Day and the project “Music for sustainable development in Morocco and Tunisia”, the UNESCO Maghreb Office, Anya-Music for All and the Hiba Foundation will organize, on 30 April 2021, from 3.00 to 5.00 p.m. (UTC), an online conference entitled “What is the place of jazz and improvised music within contemporary music in the Maghreb?”. This conference will bring together artists and festival directors from Algeria, Morocco, Mauritania and Tunisia in order to discuss this question.

First webinar of the Introductory series to the International Conference: Groundwater, key to the Sustainable Development Goals

This webinar will be the first webinar of a series aiming at introducing the International Conference: Groundwater, key to the Sustainable Development Goals which will take place in May 18-20, 2022 – Sorbonne University Paris, through Keynotes on interconnectivity between the SDGs and the role of Groundwater. This conference is coordinated by IAH-CFH and FWP and will contribute to the 8th and 9th phases of UNESCO's Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (IHP).

Addressing and countering hate speech through education - Preparatory meeting for the Global Education Ministers Conference

The United Nations Strategy and Plan of Action on Hate Speech places specific emphasis on the role of education as a tool for addressing and countering hate speech. Strengthening educational responses to build the resilience of learners to exclusionary rhetoric and hate speech also lies at the core of the Education 2030 Agenda, and more specifically target 4.7 of Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), which touches on the social, moral and humanistic purposes of education.

Tenth Anniversary Celebration of International Jazz Day

2021 marks the10th anniversary of International Jazz Day.  Adopted by UNESCO’s General Conference in 2011, every year on 30 April, people around the world join forces to celebrate jazz as a universal tool for promoting peace, dialogue, diversity, and respect for human dignity.   International Jazz Day has had extraordinary successes over the past decade, becoming the world’s largest annual celebration of jazz. It is a global movement, engaging people annually, on every continent, through education programs, performances, community outreach and media coverage.
