SDG4-Education 2030 cannot be achieved without meeting the needs of the most vulnerable populations in times of crisis. Strengthening crisis prevention and reducing risk and vulnerability is therefore high priority on the international agenda.
Capitalizing on the achievements on UNESCO's work on education in emergencies, the UNESCO Strategic Framework for Education in Emergencies in the Arab Region supports Member States in meeting their educational needs in times of crisis and commitments set out in SDG4-Education 2030 through targeted interventions around four strategic goals, that are anchored in the three pillars of education (access, quality and system strengthening):
Providing access to inclusive and quality learning opportunities to children and youth affected by crisis
- Empower with values, knowledge and skills for life to learners affected by crisis
- Support education actors to provide quality education for better learning outcomes
- Build education systems that are resilient and responsive to crisis
Eight country plans have been developed for Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Palestine, Syria and Yemen to address each country’s education needs in times of crisis. UNESCO Beirut implements the country plans in the following countries:
