Through this walking tour, they will have a chance to observe the harmonious coexistence among communities of different cultures, religions, and ethnicities, and learn to cherish the cultural similarities and embrace the differences.
UNESCO, in collaboration with the Yangon Regional Government, will celebrate the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development to emphasize the positive value of Myanmar cultural diversity. The youth participants will discover Yangon’s rich and diverse culture and heritage through the walking tour. During the walk, the young women and men will be asked to record or depict their observations and impressions through different forms of media – photos, videos, written text, art, etc. - on cultural diversity and its contribution to the development of Yangon. After the walk, the young people will have the opportunity to share and present their observations and impressions to Yangon Government officials, the media and the diplomatic corps. The aim of the event is to raise awareness among youth and policy-makers of the significance and value of Myanmar’s rich cultural diversity and the assets and strengths that exist within the different communities which have the potential to contribute to promoting peaceful dialogue and development of the country.
