World Philosophy Day - A Night of Philosophy
This second edition of A Night of Philosophy at UNESCO in Paris renews the concept used in 2016. This event, starting at 7 pm on 16 November 2018, is a nocturnal happening that aims to create the conditions of an encounter between philosophy, art and the general public. Successfully deployed on previous occasions by the French philosopher and stage director Mériam Korichi, A Night of Philosophy, in its standard format, is a 12-hour event open to the general public.
The concept proposed for this edition is to create a fusion between the “big bang format” which was acclaimed in UNESCO in November 2016 and the symposion version, celebrating the topic of love 50 years after the year 1968 and revisiting the Greek symposia 25 centuries after Plato’s Symposium.
What is at stake is to experiment a very special and unique encounter between art, philosophy (a sort of championship for meaning) and the general public. To celebrate World Philosophy Day 2018, on the night of 16 November 2018, philosophy goes public, face to face with art, championed by the energy of living art, and UNESCO opens the doors of its unique modernist building sheltering its very generous ideal of human progress and its universal promotion of human rights.
Building on the huge success of the 2016 edition, this second edition will create a particular atmosphere of conviviality throughout the whole event proposing a “convivium”, or a convivial center as the pulsing heart of the event.
For this event, 48 philosophers will be present, 24 French and 24 from abroad, along with 12 artists.
This edition also benefits from the success of the Symposion version of A Night of Philosophy experimented in 5 countries so far (Albania, Brazil, Greece, Peru, United States of America), and is scheduled in Ghent (Belgium) and Palermo (Italy) in October 2019.
On the occasion of the Nuit de la Philosophy, the UNESCO restaurant offers a tasting menu "Diagonale de dégustation".
