On the occasion of World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, 21 May 2014, UNESCO Office for Central America is organizing at 03:00 p.m. in its premises at San Jose, a debate amongst the main stakeholders concerned on the potentialities of culture as an engine for local and sustainable development. The documentary “My Culture, the Treasure Within” directed by the communicator Luis Bruzon at the request of UNESCO, will trigger the debate. This audiovisual gives a marvelous account of the importance for the Indigenous and Afrodescendant Peoples of the Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua (Ulwa, Miskitu, Rama, Mayangna, Garifuna and Creole) to safeguard their Cultures and to transmit them to the future generations in order to grant a fair balance between local development and quality of life.
In this framework, UNESCO Office for Central America will hand out publications, manuals and methodological tools which will allow for the implementation by the countries of the region of new projects combining sustainable development and the existence of a local cultural life diverse, inclusive and creative.
