On the occasion of World Book and Copyright Day, UNESCO Headquarters will host the exhibition “Les Livres à deux places” from April 23 to May 14, 2019. Sixteen sculptures of book-benches will be scattered throughout UNESCO, offering a unique reading experience, combining literature, plastic arts, and street art.

On the occasion of World Book and Copyright Day, UNESCO will be hosting the exhibition Les Livres à 2 places, that combines sculpture and literature and proposes to painters (Yumiko Kimura & Jun Sato, Michel Loeb, Pierre Ziegler, Marine di Stali...) and urban artists (Djalouz, Jean Jerome, Karl Lagasse…) to express their views about a literary work on a resin bench sculpted into the shape of an open book. Those benches, inspired by stories, poems and comics aims at reviving the passion for reading and writing of every generation.

Inspired by the Books about Town concept, originally from the United Kingdom, this unique and creative initiative aims at promoting reading and fighting against illiteracy. This exhibition, created in partnership with Lire et Faire Lire, an association that regularly participates to World Book and Copyright Day through its various intergenerational solidarity actions, intents at stimulating reading and developing a socio-cultural link around books.

16 contemporary arts will be displayed into Hall Ségur from 23 to 26 April. Reading corners promoting UNESCO’s publications will also be installed to complete this original exhibition.
From 27 April to 14 may 2019 the exhibition will then be shifted on the Piazza.

Colleagues are invited to drop and swap novels from the « Books Box » at disposal, near the benches, while discussing and sharing around their passion for reading!
