s.allayarov@unesco.orgWithin the framework of the project “Journalists Safety in Uzbekistan,” funded by the UK Government and implemented by the UNESCO Tashkent Office in cooperation with the In-service Journalists’ Training Centre, it is planned to organize the 2nd workshop on journalists safety for law-enforcement specialists. The workshop will be held in Tashkent, 27 February – 1 March 2019, by the international expert Mr. Paul Daudin Clavaud (France) and will cover issues of effective communication and cooperation of security forces and the media in ensuring journalists’ safety.
The first activities related with this project were a training on journalists safety and cooperation between media and law-enforcement bodies in Tashkent (October 2018) and Samarkand (November 2018); Round Table on promoting cooperation between the media, law enforcement and judicial authorities in Tashkent (November, 2018); Master class for students-journalists on journalists safety and Media Relations Workshop for Law Enforcement Agencies in Tashkent (November, 2018), which also were conducted by Mr. Paul Daudin Clavaud (France), an international consultant.
Nowadays the media became one of the main information sources for public; they are responsible for raising awareness about different issues, reporting and documenting events, and assisting in the development and implementation of government legislation and policies. Effective use of the media services by communicating comprehensive information and cooperation contributes to development of sustainable and secure society. The workshop will help to strengthen skills and knowledge in this sphere and provide with practical exercises and tools.
It is important to note that the project’s activities are in line with the goals and priorities identified in the “Roadmap for further Development of Cooperation between the UN and Uzbekistan” for 2017–2020, which was approved and signed by the Government of Uzbekistan, as well as the Action Plan signed between Uzbekistan and UNESCO for 2018- 2021 period.
