The aim of the workshop is to build a consortium of botanical gardens to support the development of a Lake Chad Basin Ecological Restoration Strategy, to be agreed between the five riparian countries.
In order to develop a Lake Chad Basin Ecological Restoration Strategy agreed between the five countries, UNESCO will collaborate with a consortium of botanical gardens that would support the development of the strategy, as well as capacity building of identified botanical gardens, institutions, individuals, communities, NGO’s , associations; seed/seed collection and nursery establishment as well as other relevant activities.
This strategic workshop aims to bring together identified botanic gardens members of the Ecological Restoration Alliance of Botanic Gardens (ERA) and the relevant partners of the BIOsphere and Heritage of Lake Chad (BIOPALT) project at the regional, national and local level to discuss collaboration on the ecological restoration component of the project.
The outputs of the workshop are:
- List of activities to be implemented within BIOPALT Ecological restoration component in collaboration with ERA consortium including in particular the Regional Strategy for Ecological Restoration of Lake Chad Basin
- Draft chronogram of activities
- Members of the consortium and lead institution are identified
