to Tuesday 27 August, 2019

Type of event :

Special Event

Where :

Stockholm, Sweden

Transboundary cases from Africa and the Middle East will be showcased to discuss (1) how water resource management promotes inclusive socio-economic benefits for all, (2) how up-scaling of shared benefits could support SDG6 and several others while promoting equitable and sustainable resource access, and (3) related risks and opportunities.

Regional economic integration promises neighbouring countries significant benefits while providing important entry points for sustainable development. By pooling regional markets in goods, services and labour, countries can build on their collaborative advantage, accelerating value-chain formation and attracting infrastructure investment. While pursuit of this collaborative advantage boosts both economic performance and resilience, it should also enable articulation of the co-benefits necessary for securing inclusive benefits from investments, thus enabling the SDGs. In the water domain, this translates into transboundary cooperation, socially inclusive water allocations and the management of climate risks.
