Every three years, the World Water Forum mobilizes creativity, innovation, and know-how around water. Serving as a stepping-stone towards global collaboration on water challenges, the Forum is a unique multi-stakeholder platform where the water community and the policy and decision makers from all regions of the world can work together to find joint solutions. It is the largest international event which seeks to advance the cause of water.
From the 12th to 18th April 2015, the 7th World Water Forum “Water for our Future” will be host by the Republic of Korea and will take place at Daegu and Gyeongbuk.
The UNESCO-International Hydrological Programme (IHP) has played a historic role since the first World Water Forum and is involved actively in the forthcoming Forum’s thematic, regional and political processes, taking the lead or assuming a coordination function in areas that are pertinent to the IHP Programmes, such as transboundary surface water and groundwater resources; water conflict resolution; climate change impacts on water resources; water-related disasters; ecosystem management for water services and biodiversity; water quality and pollution; and, water education. UNESCO-IHP has been recognized as a key actor in the implementation of political and regional processes, leading and organizing thematic sessions on a regular basis.
The upcoming forum is no exception; IHP experts as well as UNESCO water related category II centers are strongly engaged in the World Water Forum organization. UNESCO-IHP is leading the coordination of numerous design groups and several thematic sessions. Many UNESCO Category II Centers are also involved coordinating design and session groups.
UNESCO is also gathering Category II centers and water chairs in an exhibition booth, which will allow the UNESCO water family to promote their activities and recent publications. This space will hold special events, debates and will be a meeting place for the UN-Water family, water experts, and corporations.
Two of main 7th WWF political process events –the Preparatory meetings- are being hosted at UNESCO HQs.
