Twenty-ninth Session of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission's Assembly
The Assembly is the principal organ of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO. The Assembly sessions gather every two years IOC Member States (148 at this date), partner organizations and representatives of UN organizations. The Assembly establishes general Policy and the main lines of work of the Commission. During the course of its session, the Assembly will renew its Bureau and the composition of the IOC Executive Council (40 Member States) through elections.
The Assembly will be preceded by a one-day session of the Executive Council acting as the Steering Committee for this Assembly session and will include a high level forum (Thursday 22 June, 15:00-16:30) on the Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.
During this session, the Assembly will decide on the modalities to advance the proposal of an International (UN) Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development; adopt the recently-published and first-ever Global Ocean Science Report; recognize the accreditation of multiple early warning centers in the North-Eastern Atlantic, the Mediterranean and Connected Seas; and discuss how to position the IOC relative to the outcome of the UN Ocean Conference, contributions to the Agenda 2030 and the SDG indicators review process.
