Supporting national dialogue on bioethics through a National Bioethics Committee (NBC) in the GCC countries
The sub-regional workshop "Supporting national dialogue on bioethics through a National Bioethics Committee (NBC) in the GCC countries *" will be organized from 17 to 18 May 2015, in cooperation with the Kuwait Institute for Scientfic Research (KISR) and UNESCO’s National Commission in Kuwait.
The aim of the sub-regional workshop is to advocate for bioethics teaching and policy dialogue through a National Bioethics Committee among policy makers from the Gulf states, by sharing tools, good practices and lessons learned in establishing a NBC.
Although bioethics is well recognized as an effective tool to address ethical conflicts in medical treatments and research, capacity building to address such issues is in further needs in many of the Arab Member States. The political instability and constant change of the governments in some countries are hindering the establishment and the functioning of national bioethics committees.
* Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC): Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.
