Strategic Meetings on Biosphere Reserves networks and Capacity Building in Biosphere Reserves and Protected Areas in Asia - Pacific
Within the framework of the Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme, UNESCO Jakarta in collaboration with UNESCO Phnom Penh and Ministry of Environment Cambodia will organize the following events in Siem Reap, Cambodia:
- The 8th South-East Asia Biosphere Reserves network (SeaBRnet) Meeting and the 2nd Asia-Pacific Biosphere Reserves Network (APBRN) Strategic Meeting, 15-17 December, with support from Japanese Funds-in-Trust
- The Asia-Pacific Workshop for Capacity-Building of Biosphere Reserves and Protected Areas, 18 & 19 December 2014, with support from the Korean National Commission for UNESCO
The 8th South-East Asia Biosphere Reserves network (SeaBRnet) meeting will be focused on “Biosphere Reserves as Places for Sustainable Development through Ecotourism and Eco-labeling”, while the 2nd Asia-Pacific Biosphere Reserves Network (APBRN) Strategic Meeting will discuss on “Biosphere Reserves as Models for Alleviating Poverty through Ecosystems Services”.
Representatives from the MAB National Committees and from Biosphere Reserves networks in the Southeast Asia and the Asia-Pacific regions will be invited to present about their countries or Biosphere Reserves experience related to the themes of the meetings. The meetings will be followed by a 2-day training workshop on Biosphere Reserves and protected areas management for the managers and experts of Biosphere Reserves and protected areas from the Asia and the Pacific region. The join event will include a field trip to Tonle Sap Biosphere Reserve.
