STEP IT UP! Voices of Strength from Creative Women in Jordan
This exhibition displays stories of remarkable women and show different cases in which culture can contribute to women’s empowerment in Jordan.
In the context of the Women's Film Week organized by UN Women, this exhibition portrays stories of women in Jordan drawn from UNESCO and UN WOMEN’s projects on women empowerment. This display examines the ways in which culture contributes to the socio-economic development of women and to the resilience of their communities. Dignity, strength and creativity: these are some of the features that distinguish these extraordinary women participating in UNESCO and UN WOMEN’s projects in Jordan.
In Ghor el Safi village, using natural and cultural resources to promote sustainable development has been a successful recipe adopted by UNESCO in providing the women of the Ghor el Safi Women’s Association with job opportunities. In Umm el Jimal, the cultural assets of the archaeological site becomes an enabler of tourism-based business activities led by women, including the production of basalt handicrafts. And more voices from Za’atari refugee camp, where women participating in UN WOMEN’s project are supported to overcome marginalization by pursuing their business in the arts.
