Considering that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted on 10 December 1948, represents “common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations”, the General Assembly proclaimed 10 December Human Rights Day ( Resolution 423 (V) of 4 December 1950).

The year 2013 marks the twentieth anniversary of the creation of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
