Art can be a vehicle of rural development! The Government of India and UNESCO present 20 artists from rural West Bengal and their journey from the margin to development through Art for Life project.

To be featured are Baul-Fakir singers, Patachitra painter story- tellers and the dynamic martial Chhau Dance.
The event is part of the flagship project of the NGO Banglanatak dot com and UNESCO in India – Art for Life – aimed at demonstrating the power of intangible cultural heritage for rural livelihood.

The project, which has touched more than 6000 beneficiaries, provides capacity building and direct market linkages to rural artists to make their artistic skills alternative and viable source of income. The project has successfully demonstrated how adequate recognition of and investment in the arts and cultural skills can bring confidence in people and empower them to take part in the path of development.
