Screening of the documentary "Rising From Ashes"
UNESCO is very pleased to announce the screening of Rising from Ashes on 8 July 2013 at 7pm at its Headquarters in Paris. This award-winning documentary feature film was produced by our Goodwill Ambassador for Peace and Reconciliation, the Oscar wininng-actor Forest Whitaker. This movie was created with a common goal, to tell a story of redemption, hope and second chances. It is about two worlds colliding when cycling legend Jock Boyer moves to Rwanda to help a group of struggling genocide survivors pursue their dream of a national cycling team. As they set out against impossible odds both Jock and the team find new purpose as they rise from the ashes of their past.
Rising From Ashes is more than a movie; it is a story that relates to each and every one of us. It is a gateway of hope. Rwanda is a country recovering from one of the World’s most devastating genocides and they have longed for heroes. The riders of Team Rwanda have become more than just a cycling team, they have become ambassadors of hope and men to look up to.
The screening will take place in Room I in the presence of Forest Whitaker as well as T.C. Johnston, Director, and Greg Kwedar, Producer.
Rising from Ashes will be screened in English with French subtitles.
