On the occasion of World Oceans Day on June 8, 2022, UNESCO welcomes the artwork of German artist Stefan Szczesny created for the SAILING #Art4GlobalGoals campaign.

Based on an idea by Dirk Geuer (Düsseldorf) developed in collaboration with the YOU Foundation - Education for Children in Need of UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Ute-Henriette Ohoven and with Stefan Sczcesny, the SAILING #Art4GlobalGoals project is a sailing exhibition that aims to raise awareness of the United Nations 2030 Agenda.

To this end, Stefan Sczcesny has used the sails of boats as a support to affix his vibrant interpretation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals for 2030 which constitute a true project of prosperity for humanity and the planet. These sails represent the collective journey undertaken by the United Nations in 2015 by adopting this action plan and committing to ensure that no one is left behind. UNESCO is part of this global partnership by contributing directly to the implementation of twelve Goals. On this World Oceans Day, we focus on Goal 14 which aims to promote ocean science and build capacity to protect and sustainably manage the ocean and coasts.

Two SAILING #Art4GlobalGoals exhibitions have already taken place in Germany in the form of "Cultural Regattas". On August 22, 2021, the 17 sails mounted on the boats of the German First Sailing League sailed down the Rhine from Monheim am Rhein to Düsseldorf. The second event took place on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia on September 25, 2021 and saw the cultural regatta travel from Koblenz to Monheim am Rhein.

This exhibition under the high patronage of UNESCO has been awarded the label of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Sciences for Sustainable Development. It was supported by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO, the UNESCO Goodwill Ambassadors Program, the curator artstar Verlag and the event agency Monheimer Kulturwerke. It will be presented at the Organization's headquarters in Paris from June 8 to June 13, 2022 (excluding weekends).
