UNESCO will support Article 19 Kenya to convene a roundtable themed: “Access to Information: A necessary Plank in Enhancing Transparency and Civic Participation in Kenya”. This event aims at enhancing the capacity of media practitioners to utilise access to information to bridge the gap between transparency and accountability of public officials in the national and a select county governments. 60 participants from the media organizations, Civil Society, Government and Non-Governmental Organizations will participate in the event. This activity will help contribute to increasing capacity of Kenya’s media to effectively play its role as a public watchdog and facilitator of public participation/ awareness; enhance safeguard and exercise of right to access information; increase accountability for Kenya’s obligations to uphold, protect and promote the right to access to information.
