Revision of the Regional convention on the recognition of higher education diplomas and certificates in the Arab region
Member States in the Arab Region have agreed to review the Regional Convention on the Recognition of Studies, Diplomas and Degrees in Higher Education in the Arab Region (1978) in order to update and harmonize it, taking into account present challenges of higher education.
A Working Group for the revision of the Convention, composed of representatives of Member States, was established during the Consultation Meeting. It convened one meeting in Cairo, Egypt on 23-24 October 2017 organized by UNESCO Beirut Office. The Working Group is working on a draft revised text of the Convention, to be proposed to Member States for adoption during the next biennium 2018-2019.
UNESCO Beirut Office serves as the Secretariat for the Convention with technical backstopping from Headquarters.
The Working Group continues to work on the proposed draft text and finalize its proposal in 2018. The second working group meeting is planned for 7-9 March 2018 co-Hosted by ISESCO in Rabat, Morocco.
