Regional Forum on the Theme “Youth Movements in Latin America and the Caribbean: Between Tradition and Innovation”

UNESCO has seen the urgent need to promote a programme of action aimed at strengthening the link between social sciences and youth public policy in Latin America. Within this context, the UNESCO initiative and Regional Forum "Youth Movements in Latin America and the Caribbean: Between Tradition and Innovation" was created. <br /><br/>Its objectives are as follows:<br /><br />a) Development of scientific research, in order to analyze the main features and the most relevant impacts of youth movements in general, and students in particular, currently emerging in Latin America and the Caribbean;<br /><br />b) Creation of a forum of specialized researchers, young leaders and decision makers, which will also include the participation and contribution of specialised agencies of the United Nations system, and other major international organizations;<br /> <br />c) Holding in Lima of the Regional Forum "Youth Movements in Latin America and the Caribbean: Between Tradition and Innovation", jointly organised by the National Youth Secretariat (SENAJU) of Peru and the Institute of Peruvian Studies (IEP).<br /><br />During November more than 40 specialized researchers, young leaders and decision makers from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Mexico, Panamá, Paraguay, Perú and Uruguay will be invited by UNESCO to participate in this initiative. <br /><br />The results of the whole process (academic studies, on-line consultations and the Lima Forum) shall be published by the organizations involved jointly with a virtual library on youth movements in Latin America and the Caribbean.
