When, local time:
Wednesday, 11 October 2017 - 5:00pm to Friday, 13 October 2017 - 5:00pm
Argentina, Buenos Aires
Type of Event:
Category 8-Symposium

The purpose of this event is to enrich the debate and promote actions that will strengthen capacity to address the challenge of guaranteeing educational equity and inclusion, through the implementation of the Education 2030 Agenda in the region. Another focus of the event is to define policy implementation strategies aimed at ensuring educational equity and inclusion.

Following the commitment ratified in January 2017 by the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean through the Buenos Aires Declaration (Meeting of Ministers of Education), several United Nations agencies and other partners are taking action to strengthen the capacity of governments to fulfill these agreements.

Among these activities, the Latin America Office of the International Institute for Education Planning (IIEP UNESCO, Buenos Aires), the Regional Bureau of Education for Latin America and the Caribbean (OREALC/UNESCO Santiago) and the UNESCO Institute for Statistics are organizing the Regional Forum on Education Policies 2017. The event will bring together ministry officials from Latin American countries, civil society representatives, and experts from international organizations and academia.

During the Forum, a network of education officials from the region will be established in order to create a permanent space for consultation, cooperation, and exchange of experiences to boost the capacity of Member States to plan and manage education within the framework of the Education 2030 Agenda.

Conclusions reached at the Regional Forum on Education Policies 2017 will be aggregated with other inputs on the same topic from consultations with the Caribbean nations, and will be jointly presented at the next Meeting of Education Ministers on E2030 to take place in Sucre, Bolivia in July 2018. The inputs will include public policy recommendations and a regional plan of actions for progress toward equity and inclusion commitments.
