A UNESCO regional conference on “Cultural heritage and identity: an arab youth perspective” will take place in Carthage (Tunisia) from 1 to 3 March 2017. This event will foster discussion of endangered heritage with arab youth, through the themes of peacebuilding, social cohesion, rights and dialogue.
It aims to support youth’s effective participation in heritage protection and peacebuilding, offering an unprecedented platform for informed debate and creative thinking among cultural heritage experts, representatives of youth organizations, civil society and municipal authorities, public institutions and academia.
The Tunis conference seeks
- to highlight successful experiences of cooperation in this field,
- to explain the importance of safeguarding heritage for democratic renewal and the development of societies, and
- to identify and support pilot consultation projects for enhanced civic participation in this area.
