Public consultation for the preparation of the first periodic report on the 2005 Convention in El Salvador
Within the framework of the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, Parties have to produce periodic reports every four years on the implementation of this Convention. This consultation, on May 15 and 16, is the first activity in the process of preparing the first report of the State of El Salvador.
The aim of this first activity is to raise awareness among the participants about the Convention for the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, its guiding principles, objectives and monitoring areas, and to introduce the process of participatory preparation of the periodic report of El Salvador compiling the main Policies and measures implemented by national, regional and local authorities and civil society organizations to promote the diversity of cultural expressions. This national consultation should be highly participatory, which is why the dialogue between the authorities and civil society (professional associations of the cultural sector, the media, NGOs, artists, etc.) around the policies and measures that respond to the Convention, and implement it in El Salvador, is an essential aspect of the process. The main process of redacting the first Four-Year Periodic Report in El Salvador will also begin in this context. This workshop is two (2) days of which the first day is to present the Convention and the periodic reports, but also the context of its implementation in the country through cultural policies and the actions of the authorities. The second day consists of consultation sessions to be held with groups of people and specific entities that directly impact on priority issues related to articles of the Convention for the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions in El Salvador.
