Dakar, SenegalUNESCO, the National Commission of Senegal to UNESCO and the Institute of Human Rights and Peace of the Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar organize a public event on the history and prevention of genocide.
This conference for researchers and students of the University Cheikh Anta Diop will deal with comparative approaches of genocide, and focus on sevral cases of genocide in history, iespecially the genocide perpetrated against the Jewish people during the Second World War and that against the Tutsi in Rwanda in 1994. It will also deal with the role of education in the prevention of genocide, espeically in African contexts.
Will participate distinguished historians of the Holocaust and experts in genocide studies, such as Prof. ulrich Herbert (Freiburg University, Germany), Prof. Joël Kotek (Free University of Brussels, Belgium), Prof. Alioune Dème (University Chekh Anta Diop, Senegal) and Ms Tali Nates, Director of the Johannesburg Holocaust and Genocide Centre, as well as several experts in education from Senegal and Côte d'Ivoire.
The Conference is organized in partnership with the Shoah Memorial, the Johannesburg Holocaust and Genocide Centre, and the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, with the support of the Foundation for the Memory of the Shoah.
