Preparatory Meeting on the Establishment of the Blue Shield Pacific

A meeting will be held in February at the National Archives of Fiji in Suva from 23 to 24 February 2016. The meeting will bring together representatives of the regional chapters of the International Council of Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), International Council of Museums (ICOM), International Council for Archives (ICA), and the International Federation of Libraries Association (IFLA). These are the members of the International Committee of Blue Shield (ICBS), also known as the Blue Shield International, aiming at forming the Blue Shield Pacific within the framework of the Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict , as well as its two Protocols and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Reduction (2015-2030).
The overall objective of this meeting is to build the capacity of Pacific SIDS in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) of cultural heritage and cultural institutions (museums, archives, and libraries) through the empowerment of relevant professional organizations in Pacific SIDS. As a follow up of this meeting, a Pacific workshop on the topic will take place at Suva in November 2016 with the participation of delegates from Pacific Member States.
