UNESCO and UNICEF will co-chair the first Policy Board and Management Committee Meeting on Assistive Technology to ensure Inclusive Education and Access to Information in Uganda. This event will take place in Kampala, Uganda, on 27 January 2015. It aims at focusing on policy interventions for conducive use of Inclusive Education and Access to Information in the framework of implementing an UN Partnership on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities project in Uganda.
The UNPRPD Programme in Uganda seeks to establish an enabling environment and increase institutional capacities for greater access to quality and accessible information and communications technologies, assistive technologies and information and inclusive educational services for persons with disabilities.
The targets of the programme are specifically deaf persons, the hard of hearing, the blind, the visually impaired and otherwise print-disabled.
The implementation of the programme will be guided by a Policy Board and Management Committee consisting of all relevant stakeholders in order to ensure that the programme is both focused on national priorities and comprehensive in exploring the use of Assistive Technologies for people with disabilities in Uganda. The Policy Board and Management Committee will provide input to joint actions and collaborations and advocate for institutional capacities, wide spread support and application of standards and technology.
