To support the Member States, UNESCO is organizing an orientation and capacity‐building workshop for the benefit of key staff directly involved in health, gender and education issues in Ministries of Education in the Caribbean region. The workshop will provide an opportunity to strengthen understanding of the issue of school‐related gender‐based Violence (SRGBV) and its consequences, and to review available data and existing entry points.

The workshop is intended to disseminate and build capacity in Member States to implement recommendations included in the Global Guidance on SRGBV, recently published by UNESCO and UN Women.

UNESCO seeks to support Ministries of Education to protect learners and ensure that schools are safe, supportive spaces for learning. The training will make use of new tools and resources that provide guidance and support for participants to identify key strategies and actions.

The workshop will also review recent evidence and recommendations relating to early and unintended pregnancy (EUP) and identify common areas for responses that can benefit all learners.

Workshop objectives
• Provide orientation to the dual issues of SRGBV and EUP, and review the regional aspects of these phenomena in the Caribbean region
- Share lessons learnt and experiences among countries
- Review and reflect on existing policies and practices to address these issues
- Review global recommendations for a holistic response
- Identify entry points in each country, and strategies that prioritizes key actions on SRGBV and Early and Unintended Pregnancy (EUP)
