UNESCO Ramallah Office is organizing a training of security forces to better understand the role and function of journalists in democratic societies and to ensure the safety of journalists, including media workers and social media producers. This event enables security forces to be more familiar of their legal obligations to protect media professionals from violent actions by any group and to allow the free exercise of their profession, and will be more engaged in reducing impunity for attacks against journalists.
The workshop emphasizes the common goal of strengthening the rule of law, combatting impunity and establishing safe conditions for all, while looking at the specific risks faced by female journalists. Through practical examples and cases, participants should deepen their understanding of freedom of expression as human right; develop strategies for peaceable communication and review safety issues and procedures. The training also involves strengthening the capacities of law enforcement actors in communication techniques and relations with the press.
