Nutrition from basic science research to implications in public health

This scientific symposium related to Basic Sciences, Nutrition Sciences and Human Nutrition is co-organised by UNESCO, WHO and the Mashhad University of Medical Sciences. It will be an important platform for capacity building in basic and life sciences in the Middle-Eastern and Asia-Pacific regions.

The symposium will also benefit from international cooperation with the University of Tufts in Medfurd, United States, and aims to strengthen international scientific collaboration in this area. Furthermore, aims to foster North-South and South-South cooperation and to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 2 (Zero Hunger), Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

The event will be opened by the local representatives of UNESCO and WHO in Tehran. In order to frame this event in a peacebuilding strategy, particular attention will be given to cover several linguistic and geographical areas and to promote gender equality among participants.
