UNESCO, with the support of the European Union and in partnership with MENA Media Monitoring, is organizing a sub-regional workshop on media monitoring techniques focused on youth and youth-related themes.
The training is being implemented in the framework of the NET-MED Youth Project (Networks of Mediterranean Youth, 2014-2017), and will take place in Tunis, from 15-20 December 2014. It will bring together fifteen representatives of organizations that work on youth issues, media and freedom of expression.
The objectives of the training are :
•To present for validation by participating youth organizations a methodology for monitoring media coverage of youth and youth-related themes
•Share guidelines for implementing the methodology
•Reinforce the capacities of youth organizations for the theoretical and practical application of the methodology
•Discuss and plan the implementation of the next stages in the framework of the media monitoring process
and with the following outputs:
•A methodology for media monitoring focused on youth and youth issues is adopted in a participatory manner, its final objective being to contribute to the promotion of a fair and objective coverage of information about youth, their rights, achievements and points of view in mainstream media
•The notions and criteria for observation are validated and unified
•The stages in the media monitoring process are discussed and understood by participants, including their own role in this framework
•Capacities are acquired by the participating youth organizations, allowing them to contribute to the implementation of the media monitoring.
