Pyongyang, Democratic People's Republic of KoreaThe national workshop will focus on deepening the process of strategic engagement with national institutions SDGs indicator framework, SDG4-Education 2030 priorities aligned within the framework of the DPRK Governments National development plan and the United Nations Development Assistance Framework for DPRK (2017-2021). The workshop will also officially launch the 2019 UNESCO Global Education Monitoring Report (GEMR).
The event is co-organized by UNESCO Beijing Cluster Office, DPRK National Commission for UNESCO, the DPRK Education Commission, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and UNESCO Regional Bureau for Education in Bangkok.
The main aim of the workshop is to enhance and deepen the localization process of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 2030 agenda for sustainable development at country level. The second aim of the workshop is ensure key recommendations for Action adopted at the Third Asia Pacific Regional Policy Forum on Early childhood care and education (ECCE) and SDG4.2 are translated into action at national level.
The five-day workshop is composed of a national capacity building workshop on SDGs Indicator framework, SDG4-Education 2030 targets and indicators and quality data and statistics for monitoring the SDGs, and secondly the national consultation on SDG Target 4.2 ECCE and Asia Pacific Regional framework for action on ECCE.
The education officials and experts from line Ministries will be trained in the SDGs global indicator framework, education targets, statistics and indicators will equip the key officials with the knowledge and skills on the importance of monitoring progress of SDGs and SDG4 at country level.
This national consultation workshop will provide an opportunity for the relevant policy makers and education officials to deepen their understanding of the regional and global trends in ECCE development, ECCE national priorities aligned with global agenda and to enhance their capacity to develop and implement inclusive ECCE policies and innovative multi-sectoral approaches to improve the quality of ECCE programme in DPRK. The national workshop will lay the foundation to further strengthen and boost the ECCE provision in DPRK in the long-term.
