The workshop is jointly organized by UNESCO, through the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe, and the National Institute for Cultural Heritage of Romania, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and National Identity, and the Hunedoara County.
The workshop will explore the main concepts and provisions to understand values-based management properly in the WH context, and to define, assess and improve heritage management systems in WH properties.

Special attention will be paid to the role of communities, in this framework, and on methodological approaches to ensure the open, inclusive, and pro-active engagement of multiple stakeholders, also with a view to establishing management approaches better suited to managing continuity and change within and around heritage places.

Indeed, an overriding theme of the workshop will be the need to address the integration of WH management within national and local sustainable development, with a view to creating a synergic, mutually-beneficial relationship between cultural heritage protection and sustainable development processes.
