Type of Event:
Category 7-Seminar and Workshop

From 31 May to 3 June 2016, a national consultation meeting paired with a workshop on mapping of cultural and creative industries will take place in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, marking a new phase of the project “Creative Industries Development for the Diversity of Cultural Expressions – Strengthening the Sustainability of Creative Industry in Mongolia, Vietnam and Uganda”, funded by the Government of the Republic of Korea.
Drawing upon the previous work on raising awareness about creative industries and building creative, productive and managerial capacities of artists in Mongolia, which was also supported by the Government of the Republic of Korea, the current project aims at scaling-up the scope of the previous work to the whole industry. This will involve different stakeholders for strengthening the sustainability of creative industry in the country by developing a practical framework and action plan for culture-based innovative creative industries.
Creative industries are not only capital assets for alleviating poverty, but also a vital source for socio-cultural development and sustainable human development in preserving the diversity of cultural identities. During the consultation meeting and workshop, some 50 participants will be sensitized to this topic and will gain hands-on experience on cultural mapping of cultural and creative industries guided by a UNESCO-trained international expert. Beneficiaries comprise a cross-ministerial and intersectoral group of professionals, ranging from government officials, cultural officers, academia, as well as SMEs and civil society.
This event is made possible by the joint efforts of UNESCO Beijing Office, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science of Mongolia and the Mongolian National Commission for UNESCO.
