Mural Painting in Gaza, Palestine, in celebration of the International Youth Day 2015
Within the framework of UNESCO's Networks of Mediterranean Youth (NET-MED Youth) project, funded by the European Union, and the UN Joint campaign on the occasion of the International Youth Day 2015, UNESCO's Office in Ramallah organizes a large mural painting activity in Gaza, in cooperation with the General Union of Cultural Centers (GUCC), an NGO member of the NET-MED Youth network in Gaza.
The mural painting activity will focus on "youth and civic engagement," this year's theme of the International Youth Day 2015. The event will gather 50 young artists, women and men, who will use UNRWA compound's northern wall to create a mural that expresses youth issues, aspirations, future and hopes.
The painting produced is expected to break the national record for the longest mural, with 100 meters in length and 1m60 in width. The previous national record was for an 80-meter long mural in 2013. The new mural is also expected to break the national record for the number of participating artists, as the previous one gathered only 15 artists.
The event will start on Wednesday 9 September 2015. The mural will remain on the wall for up to four days after it is painted.
UNESCO Ramallah Office, through the NET-MED Youth project and the Cultural Unit, commits to financing this activity.
