The Melanesian Workshop on Fight against Illicit Trafficking of Cultural Objects
The Melanesian Workshop on Fight against Illicit Trafficking of Cultural Objects will be held from 5 to 7 August 2015 at the Vanuatu Culture Centre, Port Vila, Vanuatu.
The Workshop will bring museum manager, customs services and police/security sector from Australia, Fiji, NZ, New Caledonia, PNG, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu.
Representatives of regional agencies such as the Melanesia Spearhead Group (MSG) Secretariat, Oceania Customs Organisation (OCO), Pacific Heritage Hub/University of the South Pacific (USP), and Pacific Island Museum Association (PIMA) will also attend the Workshop together with representatives from the private sector.
The objective of this Workshop is to review progress in this area since the last Pacific Workshop held in Fiji in 2001 and enhance an understanding of the 1970 Convention in terms of its benefits and implications.
