UNESCO will support South Sudan Media Partners to a Thematic Working Group on Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity in Juba, South sudan. The meeting is aimed at implementing the UN Plan of Action on Safety of Journalist and issues of Impunity and will focus on the following: How to report on incidents related to safety of journalists in South Sudan; initiatives by regional organizations, diplomats and donors in regards to monitoring freedom of expression; update and expansion of the Country Action Plan on Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity; ongoing initiatives on safety of journalists and the issue of impunity and current status of the South Sudan Human Rights Commission. South Sudan is one of the five pilot countries implementing the South Sudan Country Level Action Plan. The thematic group coordinate efforts in the areas pertaining to safety for journalists, bloggers and citizen journalists and human rights defenders – all three of the groups covered under the UN Action Plan.
