Meeting of the International Scientific Committee of the volume IX of the General History of Africa
The International Scientific Committee for the Drafting of Volume IX of the General History of Africa (GHA) will hold its second meeting at UNESCO Headquarters, Room XVI, in Paris from 16 to 19 June 2014 in order to validate detailed structure of the volume and select the various contributors.
This Volume, which the Committee wants to build around the new concept of global Africa to better reflect the continuities and discontinuities in the long term between Africa and its diasporas, will be structured in three parts: (1) to update the first-eight volumes of the General History of Africa and theories on the origins of humanity and the first human civilizations; (2) dedicate to the multiple aspects of the global Africa, and its various events through the African diasporas in the world, and (3) to focus on the challenges of Africa.
By the establishment of this Committee in November 2013 in Salvador de Bahia (Brazil), UNESCO embarked on a significant intellectual and scientific adventure to continue the work of rewriting the history of Africa and its Diasporas. This concept will enable the “taking into account [of] the main dimensions of Africaness worldwide, from the initial expansion of humans from the African continent to the successive Diasporas over time right up to the present day.
