In the framework of the 38th session of the General Conference, the UNESCO African Group, together with the World Heritage Center, organises a commemoration for the 10th anniversary of the creation of the African World Heritage Fund (AWHF).

The event will be an opportunity for the African people and the international community to renew their commitment in :

• safeguarding the African heritage;
• monitoring the state of the implementation of the Convention on the World Heritage on the continent;
• identifying the main challenges between safeguarding and development on the continent in order to suggest sustainable solutions;
• raising awareness among professionals of heritage, communities and the youth.

The ceremony will take place in presence of the UNESCO Director General, the African Group President, the AWHF President and the President of the General Conference. It will lead to a video projection on the African world heritage, an artistic showcase led by an African storyteller and finally to the launch of the book « Femmes africaines, panafricanisme et renaissance africaine ».

The event will take place November 12 at 6 p.m. at the Cafeteria Fontenoy (7th floor)
