The Kickoff event of the Networks of Mediterranean Youth – NET-MED Youth Project will be organized on 5 June at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris and mark the official launch of the project. It will bring together EU Representatives, Permanent Delegations of UNESCO, Youth networks and associations, partners and UNESCO colleagues.

The NET-MED Youth Project is a three-year project which aims to contribute to the creation of an enabling environment for young women and men to develop their competencies, exercise their rights and meaningfully engage as active citizens, particularly in decision-making relating to political, social, economic, educational and cultural policy and planning processes. The networking capacities of youth organizations in the concerned countries will be strengthened, particularly by increasing their interaction with the media and their use of ICTs based platforms, and by enhancing their economic inclusion and access to the labor market.

It will be implemented by UNESCO in the Western and Eastern Basins of the Mediterranean with funding from the European Union to the extent of 12 million US dollars.

The project is an innovative intersectoral response aimed at improving the access and effective participation of youth in developing and implementing national strategies and policies affecting them. It will be coordinated by UNESCO’s Social and Human Sciences Sector (lead) in close cooperation with UNESCO’s Sectors for Communication & Information and Education, together with European Union Delegations in the participating countries.

As part of the Kickoff event, a briefing and training Workshop will also be organized at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on 4, 5 and 6 June 2014 for the Project Coordinators from the 10 participating countries.
