UNESCO will launch the Global Education Monitoring Report in El Salvador on Wednesday, May 22 at the Francisco Gavidia University.br /It will be attended by the Director of UNESCO San José, Esther Kuisch-Laroche, and the Director of Planning of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology of El Salvador, José Luis Gálvez, among other special guests.br /
The 2019 GEM Report "Migration, displacement and education: building bridges, not walls" assesses the progress towards the Education-related Sustainable Development Goal (Goal 4) and its ten targets, as well as other education-related targets of the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development. It also presents information on the magnitude and characteristics of different types of migration and the differences between countries' migration policies and trends in education. New data is provided on the disparities between migrant students and their host country peers in terms of educational opportunities and educational outcomes. It also recognizes the impact of education on migration, as well as the clear and complex challenges that population movements pose to education systems and the acquisition of skills. This event is aimed at key governmental and non-governmental individuals and institutions in the education and academic sectors, and international agencies. br /br /Since the Report's focus is on migration, the challenges that migration poses to education systems and the responses that are being generated from this sector will be discussed. A panel on this topic will be held, in which other agencies of the United Nations System, such as UNHCR, IOM and UNICEF, will participate.
