Launch of digital gender gap scorecard for Kenya
UNESCO will support the International Association of Women in Radio and Television (IAWRT) to amplify women’s voices in ICTs through the launch of the digital gender gap audit scorecard report in Nairobi, Kenya.
The objectives of this activity are to amplify women’s voices in Information and Communication Technologies through sharing of research findings, and identify concrete steps to address the challenges and gaps in Kenya. In addition to promoting an understanding of the sustainable development goals on women and technology, this activity sensitizes ICT industry stakeholders on the need to include gender in ICT policy formulation.
During the launch, the panel discussions will take place on the following topics: ICT policies for rights and interests of women; leveraging on ICTs for optimal actualization; fundamentals of digital skills, access and affordability of internet, content creation and usage and security online; and fundamentals of policy formulation and the role of media.
Participants to the launch will include representatives from Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology, Communications Authority, UN Women, US Embassy, WEB Foundation, ICANN, National Gender and Equality Commission, Members of parliament, Internet Service Providers, Gender activists, Curriculum developers, Industry regulators, Media, women leaders, media and Law enforcers.
This activity is supported within UNESCO’s framework of enhancing capacities on the use of ICTs for sustainable, knowledge-based development towards inclusive and pluralistic knowledge societies in Kenya.
