Knowledge Societies for Sustainable Development in Africa: IFAP Priorities and public domain content in Africa
The forum on Knowledge Societies for Sustainable Development in Africa will highlight the important role of African National IFAP Governance structures in contributing towards universal access to information, by facilitating access to information and developing public domain content and developing digital skills.
The development of “human capital” for the information society, including an open, integrated and intercultural education combined with skills training in ICT, is of crucial importance. ICT training should not be limited to technical competence but should also include awareness of ethical principles and values. The Forum will encourage African countries to establish/enhance the role of IFAP governance structures as part of a wider strategy to harness knowledge societies for the sustainable socioeconomic development of Africa. Furthermore, it will raise awareness among Africa Member States on ongoing processes to enhance normative instruments to promote and widen access to knowledge and information in the public domain.
