Kenya: Training Workshop on Management of Community Radios
UNESCO is organising a 3 day training workshop on Management of Community Radios scheduled to take place on 28-30 October 2015 at Fine Breeze Hotel in Voi, Taita Taveta County, Kenya. This training will be facilitated by Africa Center for People Institutions and Society (Acepis). During this training, participants will be able to gain knowledge and skills on how they can better manage their community radios to ensure professionalism, growth and sustainability.
The workshop will focus on enhancing awareness and capabilities of the community radio managers on the following issues:
i) Corporate governance issues which include the system of rules, practices, culture and process by which a healthy community radio station should be directed and controlled,
ii) Legal and institutional frameworks that affect the way community radios operate,
iii) Managing human resources which will include staff capacity development, welfare, motivation and conflict resolution,
iv) Resource mobilization for sustainability,
v) Stakeholder engagement,
vi) Monitoring and Evaluation, and
vii) How to leverage ICTs to improve financial management, monitoring and evaluation, HRM, research and knowledge management for improving programming and for marketing among many others.
The workshop will attract participants of 12 community radio practitioners from Mwanedu FM, Mugambo Jwetu FM, Sauti FM and Mangelete FM.
This event is part of UNESCO’s ongoing SIDA funded project themed: “Empowering Local Radios with ICTs” (2015-2017) that aims at building capacities of radio practitioners in Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda.
