Kenya: Training for Web Journalists on Climate Change Reporting
UNESCO will facilitate a training workshop for Web Journalists on Climate Change Reporting in Nairobi, Kenya. This training aims at equipping web journalists with experience and also deepen their knowledge and skills on how to report on climate change issues in Africa. The training workshop will attract 10 participants from Madagascar, Kenya, and Tanzania.
The objectives of the training will be to: a) strengthen journalists capacity and knowledge in understanding climate change issues and reinforce their skills in popularizing technical issues for a general audience; b) deepen knowledge of journalists on how to report on the vulnerable sectors to Climate Change; c) ensure quality in web-reporting on climate change issues related to Africa; d) give key understanding points of the Global Climate Negotiations process and the role of the African negotiators; e) identify solutions within the renewable energy and the climate finance; and, f) enhance adaptation practices growing in Africa.
This training falls within UNESCOs framework of promoting an enabling environment for freedom of expression, press freedom and journalistic safety, facilitating pluralism and participation in media, and supporting sustainable and independent media institutions.
