From 15 to 16 March, the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO will be hosting at its Headquarters a joint inception meeting with partners to launch the fourth phase of the Learning Exchange and Resource Networks (LEARN) for International Waters projects, and the inaugural phase of a similar initiative focused on Large Marine Ecosystems – IW:LEARN and LME:LEARN, respectively.

IOC’s existing scientific and capacity development programmes will provide scientific and technical support to the establishment of regional LME networks, provide guidance and knowledge to the development of specific ecosystem-based management tools, and contribute to the implementation of the capacity development plan of the projects through its OceanTeacher Global Academy.

The IW:LEARN and LME:LEARN projects will be implemented through the next four years and three years, respectively.
