Iraq and World Trends in Freedom of Expression and Media Development
The conference is part of Human Rights Day 2014 celebration, and it is organized within the framework of UNESCO’s work to operationalize the UN Plan of Action on the Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity.
The conference provides an opportunity to discuss issues related to press freedom and media development in Iraq in light of UNESCO report “World Trends in Freedom of Expression and Media Development” that was recently published.
The event will bring together government representatives, parliamentarians, media professionals, media activists and human rights defenders, international experts and representatives of organizations of the United Nations system, bilateral development partners and international non-governmental organizations.
The conference will discuss media situation in Iraq and will open an opportunity for all Iraqi stakeholders to discuss current “Freedom of Expression” draft law.
