International workshop "Increasing Resilience through Earth Observation and Satellite Navigation System"
UNESCO’s Section on Earth Sciences and Geo-Hazards Risk Reduction in cooperation with the Science Unit of the Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe (Venice) is organizing the International workshop on Increasing Resilience through Earth Observation and Satellite Navigation System, to be held on October 2nd, 2015, at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.
The workshop is the closing event of the FLOODIS project (Integrating GMES Emergency Services with satellite navigation and communication to establish a flood information service), which provides flood information services that can help to address and mitigate crisis situations arising before, during and after heavy flooding. FLOODIS is focused in providing a solution that closes a critical gap for disaster management teams, civil protection, field/emergency response.
UNESCO, in close cooperation with the EU Commission, would like to take this opportunity to present the solutions offered by the FLOODIS system, along with additional examples of excellence in Earth Observation, Crowdsourcing, and Satellite Navigation Systems applications provided by related UNESCO and EU projects on multihazards, to an audience of governmental stakeholders and civil protection authorities from its Member States and representatives of DGs of the EU Commission.
