International Symposium on the occasion of the 80th birthday of Federico Mayor
The Association of Former UNESCO Staff Members (AFUS/AAFU) is organizing an International Symposium on the occasion of the 80th birthday of Federico Mayor. The aim is to underscore The Relevance of UNESCO in light of a number of accomplishments inspired by its Constitution and initiated by Federico Mayor in his capacity as Director-General from 1987 to 1999. In addition, the Symposium will explore future prospects for the Organization in view of the expectations of the contemporary world.
This one-day Symposium will be held in the presence of Federico Mayor. It will bring together personalities from the political, intellectual and cultural spheres as well as his close collaborators. Please find attached a provisional programme.
The Symposium will be attended by former UNESCO staff members, active staff members, members of Permanent Delegations, representatives of IGOs and NGOs, youth and media. The working languages will be English, French and Spanish.
As an outcome of the Symposium, AFUS intends to publish the presentations made on that occasion as well as the messages that will be read.
