The seminar is organized in the framework of the International Day of Commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust and aims to discuss the contents and quality of Holocaust education in several countries of the world.
Various academics and educators, including representatives of Holocaust organizations, will present some examples of on-going pedagogical research in the field, notably that focusing on the motivations of teachers and students, their knowledge, on the impact in countries with no direct link with this history or the representations of the Holocaust in curricula and textbooks.
The seminar will be introduced by Steven Katz, Director of the Elie Wiesel Center for Judaic Studies at Boston University and Adviser for the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance.
It will be split into two sessions: “From Advocacy to Policy: The Holocaust in Textbooks and Curricula” and “Holocaust Education from Policy to Practice: Classroom Instruction and Professional Development”. Will participate speakers from South Africa, Germany, Argentina, Hungary, Poland, Israel, etc. The seminar will be an opportunity for UNESCO and the Georg Eckert Institute to present the initial results of their joint study on the representations of Holocaust history in textbooks and curricula worldwide.
The seminar is organized in partnership with the Georg Eckert Institute for International Textbook Research and UNESCO International Bureau of Education with the support of the permanent delegation of Hungary.
